Students in the Opera Company of Philadelphia's Sounds of Learning program saw the final dress rehearsal of Gluck's Orphée et Eurydice on Tuesday, June15, 2010 at the Perelman Theater in the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts.

Orphée et Eurydice is the profound story of loss and love that has inspired thousands of works of art since the time of the ancient Greeks.

We were so privleged to take part in the Sounds of Learning program with the Opera Company of Philadelphia. We enjoyed receiving the weekly blog posts as well as all of the outstanding educational materials to prepare for the performance. All of these resources increased our understanding and appreciation of the opera. We enjoyed the gorgeous music, singing and found the staging of the opera very thought-provoking. The ending of the opera was interesting as well - it was a refreshing change to have Orphee have a 'happy end'. Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity!

What an incredible experience! My daughter and I enjoyed reading the weekly updates and discussing music, theater, and dance. Perhaps every little girl dreams of being a ballerina or a "diva" - it's really instructive to see these dedicated professionals at work. My daughter now has a much deeper appreciation for the preparation and skill that combine to create one of these grand productions. We loved the scene in the Eleysian Fields. Wonderful! Thank you for sponsoring this program and giving us the opportunity to participate.

I really enjoyed going to the Opera this year. I had learned about this story through school, but it was interesting to see it come alive.

I had a wonderful time! Thank you for providing this opportunity for my friends and I to see this opera. The whole process of learning about the play before hand and then being able to go and see it was a great learning experience.

I enjoyed the experience of watching Orphee et Eurydice at the Kimmel Center. Using the study guide allowed me to understand the concepts of opera and know the story. I especially loved watching all the dancers in the Eleysian Fields. Thank you so much for this opportunity!

I enjoyed the simplicity of the props, costumes and backgrounds. The part where Orphee meets Eurydice in the underworld to bring her back, was too long. It seemed as if they repeated the same things over and over. The ballet portions of the opera were also very enjoyable.

This was our first Opera experience and we enjoyed it. Learning about the opera before the performance helped us to understand what was happening on the stage. We hope to enjoy many more great performances through the Opera Company of Philadelphia.

I loved the opera Orphee et Eurydice! It was great. Cupid was so weird and awesome. I would recommend seeing this to anyone, well at least the way you performed it. Thank you for giving us the chance to go and see it.
