What does it mean to be an American?

What Are Your Thoughts?

Pinkerton and Sharpless present two completely different characters. Pinkerton thinks of himself more and Sharpless is compassionate. Both are Americans living in Japan.

What does it mean to be an American? Which one of these men show those American qualities more?

Why do you think Sharpless didn't do more to prevent the marriage or to make Butterfly realize from the start that the marriage was only temporary?

I thought the opera Madama Butterfly was very interesting because it made me feel like it was real. My favorite singer was Suzuki because she was a wonderful actor,a true friend, and a beautiful singer. My most preferred part was when her son Joy-Joy was on the stage. The reason why that is my beloved part is because he was he very cute and he was not nervous. When Suzuki put rose pedals on the floor he started making snow angels. That was my favorite part. The costume that I loved was Butterfly's because it was white and sparkly like a beautifully remade wedding dress. That was my favorite costume.
